What really happened that June 18th 1815 when European history changed forever? This rigorously researched graphic novel recounts the entire chronology of events through the fate – and the point of vue – of several symbolic characters: a member of Napoleon’s Old Guard, an English soldier, a military doctor, a Prussian drummer, a troop follower, and a local farmwife. Of course, you will also come across Napoleon Bonaparte, the Duke of Wellington, the Prince of Orange, and Field Marshal Blücher. The album was created by Mor, a veteran illustrator of historical graphic novels and by scriptwriter Thierry Bonneyrat under the direction of Patrice Courcelle, world-renowned history expert.

Completing it is 16 pages of documentation which include unusual or unknown major and minor facts of this historic day.
An in-depth view of the most famous battle of all time.

The illustrator: Marcel Morote AKA Mor
Since 1984 he has been drawing historical graphic novels about his chosen home the Languedoc Roussillon: two books on guilds, five volumes on the Aude country as well as albums on Rennes le Château, the clergyman Saunière, Catharism, Beaucaire…After ‘Lili sur les quais’ a thriller written by Bernard Coatl, his latest album is ‘Demba Diop, la force des rochers’ an album on the colonial troops during World War I. He is the author of three volumes of the ‘Chevalier mécanique’ with Sandawe Publishing.

The scriptwriter: Thierry Bonneyrat
Holder of a degree in modern litterature, he has written a number of children’s books and a poetry anthology for adults. He is the author of a book of historical short stories titled ‘Les Nouvelles du Front’. He has written essays on the Great War concerning rarely discussed subjects such as the role of minorities, more specifically the Senegalese in the French army and the Chinese in the English army.
One of his short stories has been turned into a graphic novel under the title: ‘Demba Diop, la force des rochers’ with drawings by Mor. He is also the author of two other scripts for graphic novels on World War I which will be published in 2016, as well as another one on World War II.

The History Expert: Patrice Courcelle

Direct descendant of the Old Masters who inspire him, all the way back to the battle painters of Louis XIV, Patrice Courcelle is both an artist and an historian. His painstakingly documented plates, his knowledgeable illustrations, and also his paintings based on a particularly diligent historical research where exactitude of facts, circumstances, personalities and uniforms have resulted in his renown as a sought-after expert. His work is published by the most reputed Belgian, French and British specialty publishing houses. His paintings and other original art works are sold the world over. Not to mention the many exhibitions…
Author and/or illustrator of countless articles, of more than 80 books devoted to Napoleonic military history, of which more than 25 on the Battle of Waterloo itself, for 15 years Courcelle has been contributing as co-author and illustrator, to a collection titled Waterloo 1815 – Les Carnets de la Campagne considered as the absolute best on the subject by both amateurs and professionals.
The Publisher: Sandawe
Sandawe is a publishing house located in Lasne, Belgium. It is crowdfunded. It is the readers who finance the albums. For their investment they receive a copy of the book, collector items and they share in the sales profits. Sandawe holds the record for the Franco-Belge graphic novel project with the fastest crowdfunding: It took barely one hundred hours to raise the €50,000 necessary to publish volume 3 of ‘Sara Lone.’
A very active community of over 13,500 publinauts (publisher-internauts) make up this unique-in-the-world publishing house.
In 2015 Sandawe celebrated its fifth anniversary and is taking the occasion to develop a new publishing venture, anchored locally, and ‘Waterloo’ is the first title.
